The middle of nowhere just got a lot more interesting!

Nerdy astronomy geek Marsha, M to her few friends, has never been anybody special. Orphaned as an infant and reluctantly raised by an overly-strict "aunt," she's not even sure who she is. M's dream of someday escaping tiny Jewel, Indiana and making her mark in the world seems impossibly distant until hot new quarterback Rigel inexplicably befriends her. As Rigel turns his back on fawning cheerleaders to spend time with M, strange things start to happen: her acne clears up, her eyesight improves to the point she can ditch her thick glasses, and when they touch, sparks fly--literally! When M digs for a reason, she discovers deep secrets that will change her formerly mundane life forever . . . and expose her to perils she never dreamed of.

From the Author
Starstruck is my very first teen novel, and I have to say I had more fun writing it than I've ever had writing anything (which is saying a lot!) I got to channel my own inner teen (yes, my awkward, nerdy teen self) into M's character, but where I never did anything particularly extraordinary during my own high school years, M gets to break through all the bounds of "humdrum" into totally unexpected excitement and even a chance for glory! I thoroughly enjoyed the time I spent in little "Jewel, Indiana" with M and her friends (and especially Rigel!) and I hope you will, too!

Alien Bliss
By M Kircher
**This review contains spoilers. I received a free copy of this book through Goodreads Teen Critic in exchange for review.**

This book is amazing! Now, I may be a bit biased because the main character’s name is M.—a name that I obviously hold near and dear to my heart—but really, it has nothing to do with names and everything to do with how freaking awesome Book #1 in this series is.

We start out with fifteen-year-old Marsha (or M. as her friends call her). She’s a sophomore at Jewel High School and the class geek. Not pretty or popular or even all that coordinated, M. survives by staying under the radar and out of the way of pesky cheerleader Trina—her nemesis since the third grade. Anyone who wasn’t a cheerleader in high school can relate to M. and the intense desire she has just to be left alone. Thankfully, M.—who was adopted and then orphaned and now raised by her aunt and uncle—has two best friends named Bri and Deb. The trio stands together in their geekdom and dreams about one day being on the top of the social food chain. And maybe even dating a hot guy or two!

Enter Rigel (pronounced Ry-jel), the hot new quarterback who gives M. these strange jolts of electricity whenever he’s near. Much to the dismay of Trina and every other girl in the school, Rigel starts to pay a lot of attention to M.

Marsha can hardly believe her good luck and begins to fall for the hot guy and there’s this back and forth between them that sucks you in like a black hole.

Seriously, I haven’t been this drawn into a teen romance since reading Twilight obsessively for five hours in a row.

Rigel and M. begin to become more than friends, but there’s another reason he’s interested in her. One that’s hard to believe, even for an orphaned astronomy nut like M.

And the reason is that Rigel is a human immigrant from Mars, and he and his parents have been searching for M. a long time. It turns out that M. is the long-lost Princess of the underground human colonies on Mars; deposed from her rightful throne by the evil dictator Faxon and believed dead by many.

It sounds hokey. But it’s not. Think Twilight with Martians!

The writing is superb—exactly what you would expect from a New York Times Bestselling author. And the story is well-crafted. But it’s the engrossing ill-fated romance between M. and Rigel that had me reading late into the night and snatching up book 2, Starcrossed, off Amazon as soon as I was done. M. and Rigel form the legendary graell bond, while other Mars dignitaries and Rigel’s own parents think it’s better that the two remain apart.

A well deserved five stars! Great for ages 12+ (The author mentions the pull towards sex realistically, but keeps the main characters from ever doing more than kissing.)

Some Cliches, Still Good Though
By My Full Bookshelf Reviews
A free copy of this book was received from the author in exchange for an honest review.

This book had an interesting and original plot. I enjoyed it, but I didn't like that it had some YA genre cliches.

You see, the plot is really cool. I can't give it away, but it isn't something that's overdone in teen lit, which I liked. It really kept me interested in the book. Also, the writing was good, which was another thing that held my attention.

I also liked the relationship between M and her aunt and uncle. It's a detail that added to the characters.

What I didn't like is, as stated before, was there were some elements of this book that I feel are overused in books for teens, which sometimes took away from the originality of the plot as a whole. It was only in the romance, though. Insta-love was one of the problems, for example. However, people may be excited to know that there wasn't a love triangle. (Well, I suppose there kind of was, since Trina and M both like Rigel, but it was more about their rivalry then a love triangle, and it wasn't a huge part of the main plot.)

It's the kind of book that could have a sequel, but could also be a standalone. Starstruck is a good book for teens, and I for the most part, I enjoyed it!

Starstruck indeed!
By Amazon Customer
The nerd-girl story turned it on its head in an engaging, delightful way. I was born in a town much like Jewel, and the middle of nowhere is just how a teenager would describe it. Flat, boring, cornfields, high school, and football, Hiatt gets it all right. Including the out of place feeling of a kid who doesn't quite fit. With just the right amount of teen angst--meaning not too much--she sets you up for the twist that should be a stretch, but it all works. Can't wait for the next one in the series!
