The Lost Sheep

Sterling R. Walker Author Sterling R. Walker has been writing since she was old enough to spell, filling notebooks and -- more recently – laptops, with her stories. She earned a BA in English from North Carolina State University, with an emphasis in Creative Writing. The Orphan Ship is her first published young adult science fiction novel. It was awarded a 2012 silver medal from Children’s Literary Classics. Book 2 of The Orphan Ship trilogy, The Lost Sheep, was recently published in 2013. Walker anticipates that book 3, The Last Orphan, will be published in 2014. Sterling R. A great sequel to The Orphan Ship

After finishing The Orphan Ship I was so ready for The Lost Sheep, and it did not disappoint. I was quickly drawn back into the compelling story line. The author has created characters I care about. The settings are interesting and written in a way that makes them easy to visualize. It also champions a cause I support, the end of human trafficking. With another cliff hanger, I can hardly wait for volume 3!

Robert Heinlein's "Juvenile" novels written in the 1940s and 50s were my first exposure to literary Science Fiction. Have Spacesuit will Travel, Red Planet, Rocketship Galileo - these books captivated my imagination. During that time, Heinlein wrote books for adolescents filled with realistic characters and high adventure designed to stimulate the mind. He never spoke down to us. He gave pre-teens and teenagers credit for being able to grasp diverse concepts like orbital dynamics and political theory.
Sterling R. Walker gets it. Her Orphan Ship trilogy is a wonderful way to introduce adolescents to Science Fiction. An engaging, multi-national crew, exotic locales ranging from Mars to the Far East, subdued violence, and science that never gets in the way of the fiction. The series is a triumph with a positive message that treats adolescents like young adults.

Fascinating futuristic story with a thoughtful message for today.

Couldn't put this book down! Fast paced and action packed, kept me turning the pages for more.
The author does a great job of bringing the characters to life. I felt the emotions they were feeling, as I laughed, cried and hoped with them.
I read book one, The Orphan Ship, and this book continues the story wonderfully.
Can't wait for Book Three!
