Charming and Savagely Subversive Satire of the Highest Order

Woody Guthrie's guitar had "This machine kills fascists" scrawled across the front of it. Dave Thome's book should have "This book kills fatuous-ists" emblazoned on its cover. It destroys sacred preconceptions, pious mendacity and a hundred ethical ambiguities with humor and comedic insights worthy of Mark Twain or Mikhail Bulgakov. But, it is not a simple frontal assault on religion; it savages the secular world with equally joyful abandon. It is a monumental achievement, cutting up and serving the most delectable parts of so many sacred cows—yet doing it with humor that is human, even, at times, tender. This is not a malicious book, despite its relentless attack on the status quo; its purpose is to offer hope, to delight us with insights and to, in its own modest way, change the world and everything in it. I truly believe this book will eventually be seen as one of the seminal books of the 21st century, contributing to a needed reevaluation and redefinition of cultural, ethical and moral assumptions. I am an incautious reviewer, taking as many chances as Dave Thome does in his insightful indictment of the way things are, when I say, quite honestly, this is that rare book that can change your life if you let it. And, if you don’t want it to change your life, did I mention it’s screamingly funny. Read See You in Hell for the humor—it’s a hoot.

Clever, fun, devilish adventure with a lovely ending (not revealed here)

This is clever, funny, and at the right moments--emotionally wrenching. I read the screenplay and the book is based on that. Needless to say, this book (and its script) should end up on the big screen. Hollywood, pay attention! Lucinda Nero is a great character with a huge flaw--which she gets to work on through the story with her newfound buddy, the Devil. This is a duo ripe for great actors. It's an excellent romp and a good read. I highly recommend this novel, and all of David Thome's novels. His other books are also "hot" (in all the ways that entertain). David writes the blog, "Man Writing Romance" about his experiences writing his Fast Lane book series. It's funny stuff.

A Refreshing Take on Heaven and Hell

This book was a pleasure to read. It's funny, clever and has an interesting spin on the concepts of good and evil. I think one of the things I appreciated the most about it was how Thome managed to narrate from Satan's point of view without creating POV violations. He also make the devil charming and likable. Smart.
The novel is light-hearted without being irreverent, at least not in my opinion. I like the philosophies I read. Thome makes a lot of sense and I just found it interesting and seamless.
And he tells great Jeffrey Dahmer jokes. I LOVE a gross Dahmer joke.
All in all a satisfying read.
